German born artist Yane, short for Christiane, was formally trained in London England where she gained valuable experience working as a sculptor in the film industry for 15 years.

A passionate solo traveller, Yane had the opportunity to explore the vastness of the American landscape. Its natural beauty, colours and the ever changing textures heavily impact her work. Christiane’s art practise is also informed by the striking brutalist architecture and diversity of her hometown Berlin.

The clean strong lines of her technical style are often contrasting the abstract textured surfaces. By incorporating motifs from her native folklore, Yane is paying homage to the magical realm of European old world tales, whilst also referencing symbols from the world of advertisement and propaganda art.

Witnessing both cultures of ‘East’ and ‘West’ unite in the late ‘80s profoundly impacted Christiane’s approach to art. Aiming to capture the evocative beauty and turmoil of her cultural background, the end result is a blend of two opposing eco systems that are complimenting each other.

Yane is currently splitting her time between Berlin, London and Austin.
